Growing good weed is not easy nor for the faint of heart. It takes a delicate balance of science and knowledge combined with intuition and experience. Cultivating cannabis requires the grower to slow down, connect with the plants, and to really look at them to determine if the water, nutrients, humidity and temperatures are on point. Additionally, each strain has independent needs for water, nutrients, and number of days in vegetation, flowering and drying. But the hardest game of it all is...
you cannot rush it and you cannot delay it. Â
Â
Timing and patience is a must.

The November edition of the Illuminator aims to educate our esteemed readers about the steps we take to cultivate the cleanest and terpiest weed that meets the Illinois state testing standards. The Featured Flower highlight this month goes to our illustrious and mysterious character of a strain Alley Cat.

IMMACULATE CONSUMPTION
Â
The seed-to-sale cycle of cannabis can prove to be challenging. With so many considerations throughout the cultivation process and the complexity of the plant itself, the impact of environmental factors are critical in the production of clean-flower that can pass all the testing for consumption that the state requires.Â
Â
Here we’ll take a look at the factors the IC Collective growers use to cultivate cannabis that not only meets state requirements for safe consumption, but keeps the health and experience of the consumer centered in all parts of our process, from seed to flower.
Â
Who’s Your Data: We value science, and the role it plays in successful agricultural practices. We employ testing not just at the end of growing cycles, but also during the cultivation process so that we can address issues that arise that could compromise the quality and viability of the plants we produce. When issues do arise, we take it seriously, learn from mistakes or mishaps, dig into test results and lab data, change what’s not working, and stick with what yields good results. This makes it possible for IC to produce not only a clean product that we are proud to put on the market for discerning consumers, but also continue to consistently offer the refinement of THC and terpene production that we are known for.
Â
Due Diligence: We don’t skip steps; we center on both efficiency and proficiency; we don’t pasteurize our weed to make up for problems that occur during cultivation. We also do our distilling in-house so that our product doesn’t have to leave the facility to be manufactured elsewhere, where it might encounter pathogens, temperature instability, or other factors that could compromise the quality of our concentrates and distillates.Â
Â
Timing is Everything: We keep a strict schedule to prevent stagnancy in the cultivation rooms, so that no organic matter and the resultant decay accrues, which can lead to molds, mildews, pests, and other inconvenient issues that compromise the viability and value of plant and product. We analyze schedules and compare test results to refine the time-scale and turnover between growing cycles.Â
Â
Environment and Efficiency: We take bio-security seriously. A complete change of clothes and shoes is required for anyone who steps into our cultivation areas, to which access is strictly limited for all the above reasons.Â
Cannabis prefers a stable environment, and we provide that by carefully controlling climate, nutrition, and by starting our plants from tissue culture and house-made seeds. (See our previous article on The Great Pheno-Hunt)

Â
Alley Cat is an IC Collective original that was generated in the Illinois Pheno Hunt. The allure of T.I.T.S in seed form and the mystery of the Diablo male had the team fiending for phenos! The selection process was tough; it has taken us over a year to test the different plants for their Hash yields and Flower quality to get to the perfect genetic combination. Alley Cat's Flower structure, strength and Terpenes create a comprehensive experience that IC stands behind.
Â
Alley Cat has graced the Illinois market in the full gamut of our products, and is currently available in stores as Eighths, Half Ounces, Pre Rolls, and Rosin.
 Genetics: T.I.T.S x Diablo OG
Â
Alley Cat has a floral fruitiness that comes to it from the T.I.T.S lineage and offers a high that is long-lasting with the heavy sedation effects of the OG. The OG makes Alley Cat a good one for those relaxation times.
